Mobo Upgrade

I have an S478 Intel motherboard I would like to upgrade (It's an M-ATX, I need a standard ATX). I was curious if I could purchase the upgrade board and just install into the system without having to format my HDD.

Only if it has the same chipset (i think) but you might run into problems, Almost always you would want to reformat and install the OS again:)

Windows does an inspection of your Harware Configuration when it installs. If you do that, you'll receive an error NTLDR no loaded.

It's POSSIBLE that it MAY work, but I wouldn't reccomend it.
I was able to easily swap my drive from my computer from a Soyo K7VEM Pro to a Soyo KT-400 DRAGON Platinum with no problems, but it doesn't run as well. I have never gotten it to work when there is a different chipset.
I recently tried from my K7VEM Pro to an MSI K7N2 Delta-L and it didn't work, it would crash on boot. After I reinstalled I got another board, MSI K7N2 Platinum, and it works fine, but there is a noticable performance difference. I plan on reinstalling within the next few days.
