modem issue

hello everyone..i am having a problem with my IBM thinkpad R40 laptop.. i am trying to connect to the interet using AOL (dial up) i have used the modem before for AOl but not for a while.. so i tried but i am getting no dial tone.. i checked the phone line itself and it is fine no problems i checked the modem itself and it said everythin was working fine..i just dont know wht the problem could be..any suggestions..thanks
 
It could be an issue with AOL. My father still uses it as his email client even though we have DSL now, and he has been experiencing some connection problems lately. It may not be the modem at all, just that virus, er... email client isn't working.

Try re-installing AOL if you have the disc.
 
i have tried reinstalling it..i also tried dialing with other service providers such as earthlink and msn...still the same problem so i am assuming that it is the modem but i have no idea what it could be..
 
Hmm your Modem drivers can be messed up. witch what i read dont sound like it. ah if i was you i would contact them by phone and ask them about it . Thanks and have a good day.
 
try reinstalling the drivers for the modem, double check make sure windows is recognizing it, plus u can turn down the volume produced by the modem, i know ive done it cuz i couldnt stand it so i put it on silent, have u tried just letting it connect, or try a dif phone jack in ur house

Not everyone has high-speed internet. Some people don't need it, or can't afford it. There's no reason for them to "phase it out". And was your post even necessary if it didn't even help the starter of the thread?

As other people have said, try reinstalling drivers, trying a different phone jack, and check the device manager in the control panel, see if your modem is on the list :)
 
thanks everyone..i am going to try the drivers and all to see what i can do...o0o and about the whole dial up thing..the comp i am tryin to fix i gave to my cousin because i just bought a new dell laptop and dell desktop so i gave him my old laptop and he is a beginner so dial up is good enough for him and i am tryin to get it fixed...but i will repost if i need more opinions and help thanks again
