modem problem

newcompaq presario. I deleted xphome. installed xppro. modem not working modem is agere lucent 56k. I removed new modem and installed older lucent modem i had on hand. i installed software disk that came with older modem. this modem not installing right either. error says modem not configured. also,disk program not running the i have seen it before.

be sure you unistalled the old drivers from the hardware manager.
