Modular PSUs

I recently purchased a Corsair HX520 and I try to turn it on via the switch at its back but it has no effect on the PSUs current state (fan doesn't spin).

Could this be because it is not connected to anything that needs power?
Or is it broken and should be returned.

I ask this as it is the first modular PSU I have owned

FTB:eek:

it only spins when it gets hot. the fans are temp controlled
Did you even read the post?

The switch on the back probably just cuts the circuit from the power cable, as with most other PSUs. You will have to connect it to the motherboard or short two pins on the ATX plug(I forget which ones right off) to actually power it up.
