Mom Hp wont connect

So my Mom is up at my house and she needs to use my wifi. Her laptop though will not connect to my wireless router. If I open her network sharing center It says that the network is unidentified. and show limited internet connection. She is connected to the right router and the password is correct. Any ideas?
 
Is the laptop running Vista by chance? This is actually a problem with the OS itself. And it doesn't matter what the security is. The only thing I can recommend is to delete the existing wireless connections and try setting it back up.
 
yeah it is Vista, how do I delete the connection in Vista? Once I delete the connection then just try and reconnect again?
 
Go into the network and sharing center and on the left hand side, you'll see where it says manage wireless connections. Then delete the entry for that wireless connection and reset it back up.
 
Does she have her wireless adapter set up for a static IP? I've had that in the past, I took my laptop somewhere and couldn't figure out why I couldn't connect to the free wifi and it was because I had set the IP settings myself and forgot to change them back to automatic.

Go to her LAN connection, Properties, select Internet Protocol IP4 (TCP/IPv4), Properties, ensure IP and DNS server addresses are obtained automatically.

You should try what Johnb35 suggested, removing and reconfigure the wireless connection.

The laptop may also be blocked by MAC address in router security but presumably you would know that if it was set. It would not normally be set by default.
 
What virus software are you using? That could be blocking. Try to disable the virus protection to test to see if you can connect. If if can't it's in your settings.
 
also if your router is wireless G and her is card is wireless N it might have problem,

always try hardwire to see if it's working that way. even though you need wifi i'll try hardwire first.
 
Well I took the laptop to best buy cause the wife told me too and without a problem hooked up to there wifi. I don't know what it is, it is cause I have a N router and she has a G card? I fixed the problem by buying her a external wifi card for $30.
 
yes, if you want to save 30 dollars and take the dongle back, you can go into the router ( on most ), and put it in compatibility or N/G or G only modes. If you aren't running anything other than the email/internet then your wireless being in g mode won't affect anything.
