On May 26 2010, Seagate held a web conference to release details about
their new 'SS Hybrid' hard-drives. I'm watching it now, you can see it here.
What is it?
Hard-drive that is 150% faster than 7200RPM, but nowhere near the price of
a Solid State Drive. They took a regular HDD and added 4GB of flash memory,
and it uses built-in software to determine the most essential data to store in
its flash memory.
The result is a hard-drive that performs almost like a SSD, but it costs way
less. So if you've been waiting for prices to drop on Solid State Drives,
like me, I guess we won't have to wait much longer.
