I have just build my new computer (first one) and pluged in a keyboard power and the vga monitor cable turned the computer on all fans whiling, great everything works but the monitor did not come off standby it was just in standby mode, what could be the problem my brother said i need a dvi to vga adaptor (becuase i got a vga port and a dvi port) its an ATI 9250se excaliber.

Thanks.

try taking the battery off of the mother board to reset the bios. this can allow the mobo to id the vid card. btw, how does the vid card connect to the mobo...agp? pci? pcie?

try putting the ram into a different slot.

p.s. Johnnyboy0056, its a 10 line max for the sig ;)

I am running Dual Channel RAM (crutial 256mb x2) i had the dual channel kit.

Could it really be the RAM.

P.S Its a VGA monitor

Thanks.

yes, it could be.

try fireing up the system with only 1 RAM stick inserted.
and have a look if the video card is correctly inserted into its slot.
( is it a pci or a AGP card? ( dont know if there is a pci version of it, but you never know.. :) )

is it fully fitted in the slot? and does the motherboard has a AGP port?
( if so, try a old AGP card, and fire the system up with that one, that way, you can be shure that the mobo/cpu/RAM ok is)

but that doesnt mean they work propperly. there is always a small chanse that one of the pieces doesnt work propperly.
do you have a old pc with a pci or AGP card? and does your mainboard has a AGP slot?

Forgot to say that it isn't a pci express card is a normal pci card i phoned the shop support where i bought it from and they said i need a pci express is this right and if it is then why do they sell pci cards aswell if they dont work on newly built computers.

Thanks.
