Monitor not showing anything

I started my other computer this morning and xp loaded easily and stuff. When it got into the log in screen for the accounts the screen goes black as if the pc is not detecting a monitor can anyone help? BTW my other computer is an hp and its using a hp monitor.

restart your computer, boot into safe mode (hold or continueously tap F8 while the comp is booting and when the menu pops up choose safe mode)
then after you get to your desktop right click and go to properties
and click the settings tab
drag the screen resolution slider all the way to the left
then under color quality choose the lowest setting (probably 16)
then next click on the advanced button, choose the monitor tab
then under screen refresh rate choos 60 hertz
confirm all the settings by pushing OK on the windows
and attempt a reboot, this time without pushing f8, hopefully this will help!
if it work youll want to expirement with changing the colors and screen resolution.

If that fails, you should open your computer and reseat the graphics card and see if that helps.
