Monitor overheating?

Hi all,
I've just moved house and the only place I can put my computer desk is in front of the window. I've noticed this morning that the back of my LCD monitor is red hot from the direct sunlight it's in. Is this a bad thing or could it be over time?!

Cheers,
Matt

computer components and heat...not very good friends, that includes monitors. ive never had any issues with heat and my monitor, but ive also never put it in direct sunlight to long periods of time.

the only thing i can come up with is try putting something in between the window and the monitor, like a shade or something. Or you could just close the blinds/curtain when the suns shining in.

Read the back of the monitor, find the manufacturers website & find the safe operating temperature of the monitor.

Then stick a thermomiter behind the monitor and see what the temperature is when the suns been shining down for a few hours :)

If you're over 45c or so thats when I'd start to worry, IIRC most monitors are safe to 50, but I wouldn't like to run mine at 50c all day

my monitor doesn't have any vents on it, its one of those hospital monitors, 18 inches exactly square you could smack the screen with a hammer and nothing could happen (plexiglass face)

but it gets about 100-110 degrees Fahrenheit (sorry you have to do your own conversion to celcious (can't spell) )

Thanks for the suggestions all. Turns out that it was right on it's temperature limits and although there's no mention of long-term damage, I've put a shade between monitor and sun just in case...

Cheers again,
Matt
