Monitor problem..

When I turn on my monitor it stays on for about 5 minutes and then it just shuts itself on. If I wait like a couple minutes or so I'm able to turn it back on but once again it turns itself off. Its a 17" Planar Flat LCD

The ac converter is overheating most likely. Either return the monitor under warranty or plan on replacing the power converter for it. The only thing at the display end is the screen, backlight, adjustment panel, and casing.
 
Im on the tech staff for my highschool I use to go to and when somethings wrong with something we throw it out, That's how I got this monitor. So I dont have a warranty for it =\

I was playing WoW on it earlier for about 2 hours with no problems thinking somehow it may have fixed it self and boom it went out.. Then it kept going out constantly and now its back to normal.. Maybe the cheap power button is broke? Haha I dont know..
 
If it has reached the 30,000 hours of average use seen with lcd monitors it's time for it to take that looooooong dreaded dirt nap! :eek: You might as well say it's time for you to go into permanent retirement. :(
 
It just keeps getting better and better doesn't it? :P By the time you were done replacing the individual parts that go you would spent enough for a new one. Need any links?
