Monitor Problems

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 223BW monitor. It's less than 24 months old, but lately I've been having some problems with it.
After my monitor has been switched on for a few hours, it will switch itself off and then on straight away again. This has started to happen more frequently, and starting to last longer when it switches off (currently at about 2-3 seconds).
Before this monitor, I had a (crap) Acer monitor, and it gave the same problem, and about 2 months after the problem started, it became so bad that the monitor would switch off the instant you would turn it on, and I couldn't use it at all. I bought the Samsung because of their decent record of reliability, hoping I wouldn't have the same problem.
I'm going to assume that since my machine is running the majority of the day, that is it a problem with the heatsync and the monitor is over heating (I am having the same problems that I had with the Acer, and that was the cause of the Acer's problems)

Is there anything I can do to fix this problem with the Samsung before it gets any worse, or will I need to have it replaced/repaired? If I do require it to be repaired, how much would I be looking at to have it fixed?

I would call samsung on it so they can take care of it. I had similar issues with 2 DELL LCD's and it turns out it was the back light. This has happened to samsung's before I have seen it.

Its best to call samsung, They should beable to set you up with a replacement.

but..

Check all the cables connected to it. Also, If you have an extra monitor, Connect it to your pc and run it for a while, Just to make sure there is nothing wrong with your video card.. But it does sound like its the back light starting to go on the monitor.

If the power light goes off. Meaning it losses FULL POWER, not just the screen going dark. It could be a short with in the power supply.

Thanks for the fast reply, all the cables are plugged in fine, I don't have another monitor (other than my broken Acer) but I do have another video card, so I'll switch them around tomorrow and let it run from that for a few days, and see if I have any problems with that.
The power light remains on, but at the moment it's only off for at max 2-3 seconds and I'm a little preoccupied thinking "WTF WHERE'D IT GO" to take much notice of the power light. :p
EDIT: The screen isn't fading, it's instantly going off, but with power still on. That's why I thought it was a heat problem, switching off to stop it from overheating and burning a circuit.

Yeah hey ryan i would suggest to ring samsung as i believe they have a 36 month warranty with their mechanical sides of things therefore chances are when you ring them they wont worry about a repair and just give you a brand newy. Dont know what that other bloke is on about dell monitors ive had mine since 2002 and havent had a single problem with it. hope this helps
