what deciding factors do u look for in a monitor. I looking for a 17 inch LCD under $200. I know i need low response times for gaming but what else should I look for? Also what r some good brands? Thanks

For gaming try to go with a monitor with 8ms or shorter response time, to reduce ghosting. You also want to look for the brightness, which is indicated by a value similar to 300cd/m2, you will want to do some comparing and see what the highest brightness you can get for your money is. Next is the contrast, which is indicated by a ratio similar to 700:1, the same goes for contrast, you want the highest contrast ratio that you can get with your money.

The higher contrast and brightness you have, the clearer and sharper the images are going to appear. A few other things you want to consider are the viewing angle, and the max resolution. However those are pretty standard and dont vary as much as other factors.

Personally, I wouldnt go with a brightness lower than around 250cd/m2, and no lower than a 400:1 contrast ratio. As for the brands, alot of brands offer excellent quality monitors, however one of the best known would be Viewsonic, but there on the pricey side.

And look at what the native resolution is, cause some monitors have the wierdest resolutions that aren't 4:3 aspect ratio, which is the most used.
