Same as OMEGA, but not a widescreen, your games will look like crap, there just isn't enough stuff made for widescreen monitors yet.
You dont know how wrong that was.... almost everythign "supports" widescreen, i went through all my games in steam and they all support widescreen 16:10. And obviously windows supports it etc... normal apps do, because there is no special requiremnt for it....

You should definatly have been able to tell the difference if those were the true MS times... Since OMEGA seems to be a well trusted member here, he evn once said he could see the difference between his 8 and i belive the other was 5 during gameplay.

If you dont play games that often then I wouldn't put it into deep consideration, but it would be nice. Birghtness is nice, reslatuions anr't bad for that size, the only complaint(since you say you dont play games to much, but if you think you would get into it more i would still suggest more faster then 8ms, maybe try some at a bestbuy to see what they are like some more) would be the low 1:500 contrast ratio

Just remember your not going to be uprgading your monitor very often(most likey) so it would be best to save(OR in your case for a present, maybe see if you can split it with your parents 80-20 or something, or get less other things as a sacrafice) a little more and get a little better one since your proabally going to have it for years.

You can also convice your parents to pay more since it will save on the electric bill compared to the CRT(Just dont mention its going to be about 2.50 $a month USD)

Also a lower repsonce time wont always cost that much more depending on the model, but for example at newegg(and i relise you cant buy from here, but its just for example purposes)
you can get 2ms monitors starting at 240$

and they also have a 700:1 contrast, they are not widescreen though, but they are still all 19inches.
Ok, well, in the UK 500:1 seems to be standard unless you pay quite a bit more.... wait.... damn, ok, saying that i just had a quick flick through ebuyer again and found this.... It's not a recognisable brand, but here it goes

SIZE - 19" TFT
MAX RESOLUTION - 1440x990
RATIO - 16:10 widescreen
BRIGHTNESS - 300cd/m2
CONTRAST RATIO - 850:1
RESPONSE TIME - 5ms

Made by a company called Belinea - Model # = Belinea 1925 S1W

Its actually like £25 cheaper than the original one was, thats the price extra for a known brand i suppose.... what do you think?

That one loooks great, good responce time(for games very good contrast, good brightness, good size, and standered resalutions. Does it have a warrenty? It's normaly good if they have a 1-3 year warrently esspecaily on not so well known brands, see if you can find any reviews on the model. The specs look good to me though.

I would go for a 21inch CRT monitor, one of the newer ones though, so its nice and small in the back. If you get one with a highlight fetuare you will probally put it to more use then you think.

I say CRT, because any decent LCD will cost you twice as much as a CRT and proabally more. It's also VERY easy to find used CRT's for half price or less then LCD.

Ya but think about it..
they say an LCD will last you longer and easier on the eyes ;P

Sorry for thread resurrection, but it is my thread anyway, so deal with it......

In response to Arm_Pit's question about warrant,y yes it has 3 years on-site warranty, im nt entire sure what onsite means, whether its on their site or on my site (at home), im not sure but its 3 years anyway. Link to tiem is below

The specs look great to me, I have never head of the brand and there are no reviews, but if it goes bad, then thats what the warrenty is for isn't it? :P It looks great to me, good price too.

It looks like a good one. It doesn't tell you a dot pitch though... I just bought a 20.1" wide screen 2 days ago I went for the Benq FP202W and I love it.

My lcd's were only $229 each, and are 20.1" 1680x1050, 1000:1 contrast, and 5ms response to boot, you just gotta shop around.

And as for games not having widescreen support, that's complete BS. You can play oldschool games like doom, and duke nukem3d in native widescreen resolutions. Those are far from new games.
