my computer monitor will abrubtly turn off about every 3 to 4 minutes. all i do is just hit the power button on the monitor but it is quite annoying. any suggestions would be very helpfull.

thanks

Wait as I understand it your hitting the power button and your moniter is turning off and you dont know why?

uhh........no it turns off every 4 minutes and i had to hit the button to turn it back on, i asked a friend and it was on hibernation..............problem fixed.

lol, i think he means it turns off and he has to hit the power buton to turn it back on, but i would guess it's a power problem, make sure it is firmly plugged in, and if that doesn't help, it might need to be repaired.

Oh well I would have said that your moniter might have a loose connection or is dieng, is it lcd or crt.

its not lcd so i guess crt, i tried the hibernation settings but it is still not working, it does it every 4 minutes exactly.

How long have you had it because I realy think your moniter is slowly killing its self off.

Yourmonitor can't stand on without turning off. Your transformer's dying. Sorry :( . One time, you'll try to light it on, and sadly, it will just stay off or might do electric sparks.

Well it may be nothing really. Have you checked your power options? You can set your computer to put your monitor into standby. Look here.

- Click Start then control panel

- performance and maintainance

- power options

- Make sure that "Turn of Monitor" is set to never.

i have had the monitor for about 3 years, i tried to set the power options like you said last night and it has been working so far. it is really strange i can be on the computer in the morning for about an hour or 2 and it wont shut off, but at night it still does it

Wouldn't be power options then. Perhaps it is getting near the end of it's life. Try keeping er cool and let er know she's loved ;-). 3 years is a decent time to keep a monitor.

Since when? Every one in my house is over 6 years old, except for my LCD that I just got when a 14-year old one died.....

well perhaps you took that to literal I dunno. A good monitor should last longer then 3 years "BUT" when monitors are as cheap as they are today then 3 years is indeed a decent time.

Never would I use a 14 year old monitor :-P. I actualy would hope that my monitor dies in 3-4 years as it gives me an excuse to buy a new one :-P.

I loved that monitor....

You would have had too :-).

I also should have mentioned before someone else responds that I'm talking about your average sized crt monitor.

Don't use old monitors. They can strain your eyes, besides how cool is it to have a kickass videocard if you ain't got the monitor to notice the crisp image quality etc. :)

Syncmaster 959NF Diamondtron 1280x1024 at 102Hz is what I'm running and I love it.

Kickass? My old computer had a 512KB PCI card, and one of my older ones has a 4MB PCI card

WTF? Thats a pretty exact diagnosis..... too exact

As for the monitor powering off, from what it seems, you've checked the Windows settings for powering off but also check the monitor's settings and the BIOS settings too :)

I got a pair of Viewsonic 17PS2 and 19PS amoung other things and they are still rock solid.
