Monitor shutting down

I've been having an issue for a while now with my monitor just shutting down randomly. It's as if it stops receiving a signal. In other words, the light on the monitor changes from green to amber like when I shut off the computer. I've changed monitors and it still does it.

I'm running a home built system (XP Media) with an ABIT KD7A motherboard and AMD Athlon XP 2800+ processor. The video card is an AGP type MSI NVIDIA GeForce 6200 with 128 mb.

I thought it was a heat issue. But I've got quite a few fans, tried it with the side cover off for more ventilation, and constantly checking to be sure it's clean inside. But sometimes it does it too soon after starting up for me to think it's due to heat anymore.

Thanks in advance!

First off, try a different video card or update your video drivers. Could be malware, but highly unlikely. Boot into safe mode and see what happens. If it stays on, most likely its the driver or card itself.
