Monitor Suggestions -- Used for Programming, Internet, no gaming

Hi all,

I'm looking for a new work monitor. I use the monitor up to 8 hours a day. My current one, KDS 22-mdwb, has horizontal lines that extend from text boxes and windows. Text is not very clear on it either. My parents have a Samsung 205BW which is better, but since I do not use that monitor on a daily basis I can't describe how much better it is.

I need a monitor that will not fatigue my eyes. I have a few CRTs at work, which are amazingly clear and very easy on the eyes but they are only 17"ers. I need a minimum of 22" because I need multiple windows open. The monitor will not be used for games. I live in Canada, so some models may not be available here. I do not want to spend more than $500 on a monitor. Are IPS monitors less straining on than TN monitors? I am going to buy a Samsung 2433BW to use as an initial starting point. If I like the monitor I may keep it unless there are better suggestions. Viewing angles are not very important to me.

Thanks in advance.

I am going to look at another monitor. It is the Samsung 2343BWX. Its resolution is 2048x1152, which is a big plus. I am also thinking of getting a 245T, but it is double the price of the 2343BWX. Does anybody know if there is a picture quality difference between the 2343BWX vs. 2433BW?

I will be using a GeForce 6600, which has a maximum display resolution of 2048x1536, so I should be ok with the 2343bwx.

I just got two of the 2433bw and I am still waiting on parts for the rest of my build, but I hooked them up too my laptop and I am satisfied. You will definitely have plenty of space for multiple windows at 1920x1200 and it looks great too.

In a few days I will hopefully have my system set up and I can give you a better review.
