Hi

Just wondering whether anyone could help me please. Im trying to build a computer from scratch and am having problems with the graphics card and monitor. I have installed a pcchips m848a motherboard and a geforce mx440 graphics card. Only thing is when i plug in the monitor cable, it turns the screen off. Without having onboard vga i am stuck at what else to do. All the pins are in the right place on the motherboard and when you push the power button everything boots up but as soon as you connect the monitor cable to the back of that graphics card the screen just goes black. Anyone have any ideas on what to try please

cheers in advance

Don't be connecting monitors or other parts while the system is turned on. You will need to attach the monitor while it is off. If the monitor is staying black after pc is turned on either you have a bad monitor, bad cable, bad video card, or bad motherboard. When you installed the motherboard in the case, did you put the brass standoffs between the case and motherboard? You will have to do some diagnosing to find out.

Yes i connected the cable when the computer is turned off and yes i put the brass screws underneth the motherboard. as soon as the pins touch the the graphics card the screen turns off yet if the screen is just turned on when the cable isnt connected to the computer it works.
