More Aggravation

The Dell computer, that I have really mentioned lately, is slow after the reformat and I have heard that killing Windows Update and Windows Security will fix it some. In Task Manager, the thing displays CPU-100%, it is even slow to open My Computer:rolleyes:. Can someone lend me a hand here?

I will also need some virus protection software, the crappy McAfee expired and I am not installing anything else without knowing what it's like. I don't want anything that aggravates me to death.

For the antivirus software try AVG or Avast.
 
I have AVG long ago, years, but compared to how Avast fared on this computer AVg is less annoiing. However Avast on the computer in my sig seemed fine, but the computer's corruption started with Avast turned off and not turning on. I think it was because I wasn't running scans regularly.
 
I hate McAfee, is there anyway to make this PC faster? There is no software on it now, just Windows and My computer still stutters to open. I am building him a new PC, thank god. It just needs to work and without having patience issues from me, maybe run the Internet. I am getting the new one this Fall. As for the Dell, Youtube will see my opinion on this Dell PC, soon.
 
Darn, I can't even load a 1 min vid in under an hour with this Dial-up unless it's a good day.

Sort by processes (click on "CPU" tab) so that you can see what is eating all your CPU processes. Then kill it (hit "End Process")

As for antivirus, having used both avast! and AVG, I prefer avast.
 
There was an update recently I recall that can sometimes break the svchost.exe file and cause it to run at 100% constantly. It may be that.

Googling it is about friggin' useless, it is all over the forums but, I haven't seen a good fix yet. Most of them have been crappy stuff, by somebody no-one knows.
 
Perhaps it'll be like the RealTek fiasco, Microsoft will realize the issue and solve it, I'm having no issues though.
 
Oh, Microsoft only fixes things that make them look bad in front of ppl that don't do what we do. Microsoft has really pissed in my cornflakes lately.

1st: What is it any of your business? "Piss in cornflakes" has been around forever. Most ppl are too foolish to build their own system, and don't go into anything that feels or seems advance in Windows. If you're not trying to be helpful, get outta my thread.
 
Be a good idea, the drives could be running in PIO mode and if it has a AGP port its might be in PCI mode without the chipset drivers

What is PIO mode? The whole computer is just sluggish as crap, it has no AGP, it is mATX with 3 PCI ports. I am doing the Chipset Update now.
