More Aggravation

PIO mode is alot slower, unless there older than 10 years they should be running in DMA or UDMA mode. PIO mode means Programmed Input/output its alot slower using CPU time to transfer data. DMA or UDMA means Ultra Direct Memory Access. You can go into the Device Manager, drop down your IDE controller and see what speed your harddrive is running in.

Will I notice a difference after the Chipset update?
 
I did the Darik's Boot and Nuke, I am waiting to install Windows, last time the Windows install took 24 hours. Should I see a difference this time?
 
I just turned the computer on and inserted the Windows XP CD, I get two short beeps and "F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup". I know the optical drives are first in the boot sequence. A little help?

I will also need some virus protection software, the crappy McAfee expired and I am not installing anything else without knowing what it's like. I don't want anything that aggravates me to death.
