More Drives, Faster Computer?

Installing different types of ram

I am about to get more RAM. I currently have (2) 1GB sticks in my ASUS M3A79-T and want to add (2) 2GB Sticks to fill it up. As long as they are both the same speed (1066) will they work fine together?

Do I need to change the order they are placed in?

You shouldn't. As long as everything uses close to the same voltage for the same speed then you will be fine. If you have 2 different voltages use the higher one unless it's extremely high (ie. 2.4V+)

scooter:

you say run them: 2gb-1gb-2gb-1gb

so you mean to run them in the physical order (left to right) or to place slot1: 2gb, slot2:2gb, slot3: 1gb, slot4: 1gb???

I would run them in this order left to right dimm slots--2gb-1gb-2gb-1gb

that makes sense.... I would want the 2GB sticks accessed first before the 1GB (if thats how they work)...

thanks again

It can be performance. If you do 2GB 2GB 1GB 1GB in a system that uses 1/3 2/4 for dual channel, then you will have single channel (or flex mode dual channel) but why would you want that when you don't have to?

*sigh* Lots of motherboards place matched DIMMs adjacent:

1 - 1 2 - 2

This was the layout on my old Foxconn (may it rest in peace). Consult yo' mobo manual, homie!
