More GTA IV Problems...

This time, after reformatting, updating, installing all my other games, GTA IV decided to hate. After launching, it goes to a black screen for about 20 seconds, then it crashes with a "GTA IV has stopped working. windows is checking for a solution to the problem" message.

Google doesn't give me any answers. only more people experiencing the same. something to do with GFWL they think.
 
GFWL is a joke anyway....

But it could be just that the 5770 is new and drivers are nto all that good for them yet?

Have you tried re-installing the GFX drivers?...Updating DX with DX Setup?
 
done all of those. :( before i reformatted the 5770 kicked gta4 in the arse. same drivers, catalyst 10.1
 
Sorry to hear that Linkin. I dont have a solution for you but just wanted to say that sucks and I know how it feels to have something not work, even if you dont use it. For example the GPU in this pc does not need to be OC'd but it is and I would be pissed if ATITool didnt work.
 
figured it out. i had to use *cough* xliveless *cough*

that means GFWL is the culprit... I already installed the stand-alone GFWL program as advised on other forums, no dice.

It's a shame that people that pirate games have a better chance of it working than people that buy it.

ahh im not shocked to hear GFWL was the problem....its always been crap and i avoid GFWL games altogether now.

Ive got to install GTA IV again,this time il be using Xliveless aswell as i dont plan to go online anymore,I just want to mod the hell out of everything :D

yeah i read somewhere that when you use that you can get all sorts of mods! i might look up some tonight.
 
you can...i modded the hell outa mine before,changed basicly all the cars.

You can change anything from the whole cars....to just the wheels....or you can change buildings/stuff like that.

Its fun because you have a custom game to how you want it :D

I posted alot of shots in the "Gaming screenshot" section some time back.
 
it's a shame that this is the first GTA where you need to do illegal things to mod the game. come to think of it this is the first GTA where it wouldn't run on midrange/lowend hardware!

I call that a FAIL in my book.
