ok. this time ive got my computer running perfectly but i can't connect to the internet. My computer completely refuses to even find the modem or to connect to it. pleeeeease help me :P
 
Netgear DG834GU. It's working perfectly on all the other computers we have. ive tried different ports and the cable is the same one that I used on my old computer
 
What does it say under your networking section in your control panel? Does it list any cable networks? You may need to try unplugging it and waiting 10 seconds then replugging it back in. You might try plugging the cable in different ports if that doesn't work.
 
disconnected, restarted computer, then reconnected. still no joy. and the call centre to do with my ISP is only open until 7pm. Its 8:11. i officially hate them more than it is worth
 
My isp brought this one guy, he was really great. Gave me his cell phone number, he was knowledgable, friendly and fixed everything up. Sometimes they are idiots though, you never really know who the company sends down or has talking to you(most of the time you reach a dispatcher who won't even know about their products or services in any length of detail). Are they a reputable isp? How are they rated for customer service? Maybe you can try them tomorrow, I tend to have luck reaching most businesses on Tuesdays-Thursdays if I call before noon.
 
yeah ill try tomorrow when I get home. its a complete bummer as i was in an epic mode after finishing this build too.

You did install all the drivers needed for the hardware correct? Go into device manager and look under network adapters and tell me what is listed.
 
theres no modem listed or anything like that. the computer refuses to recognise the modem. and i downloaded a driver for my modem on another computer, but I can't run it.
