More ram necessary?

I just bought a AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual-Core 4200+ Systemax via TigerDirect with 1GB DDR400 PC3200 Non-ECC Memory (1GB x 1).
Are there any significant advantages (speed, etc.) to filling up the 4 ram slots with 1 to 3 more 1GB simms? Don't want to waste the $$ if I don't need to. Thanks.

if you got a gig, you should be good for now, buts its nice to have the expansion if neccessary in the future.

depends on what you want to do with your computer. Gaming, 1 gig should be enough for now. Extreme EXTREME video editing, more ram the better ;)

is your fir 1Gb stick dual channel compartible? (or are only 512 Mb sticks dal channel?)

Must be. It was a configuration option when I bought it and it had 'recommended' (1GB) next to the option. I hope so anyway!

read ram101. it says if you get 4 1gig chips it will underclock the speed of the ram. i was planning on getting 4 gigs b4 i read that, now it dosent seem like much sense to do that if its gonna underclock.

well, you just got an athlon 64 x2, so it looks like you got the cash. I have played BF2 with 1 gig of ram, and with two. There is definitaly a difference, noticable. And I would say that near future games (FEAR, Q4), would really extract the performance out of 2gigs. I know squat about video editing, dont listen to me if thats wat you will use the RAM for. Buy it, for gaming; if not now, definitly within 6 months..

yes it is. it's just not running in dual channel mode right now.

it's comptaible yes, but to have dual channel you need two (or four) sticks of memory. odds are your best performance configuration will be attained via 2x1gb... of courseit depends on what you're doing with the system that will determine whether its useful to upgrade or not (although, pretty much any circumstance will see a benifit). do have a read over of RAM 101

actually, what i said was
Me said:
with respect to the Athlon64 with on-die memory controlers, those running with "Venice/sandiego" cores (or newer) will be able to run with all dimm slots populated at the full speed. with the exception of Athlon64-based processors (i.e., on-die memory controllers), this isnt a concrete rule in that some memory controllers will only drop the speed depending on the type of DDR (and i would imagine DDR2) memory installed (i.e., double sided or single sided).
and the Athlon64 x2, being a manchester, (i.e., stepping e3+) wont have a problem there.
