Most irritating problem...

I just recently booted my computer to rid myself of useless saved information and viruses : / and I will be on for a good 30 minutes then it will just restart....this problem is VERY annoying any suggestions?

you'll have to rephrase what you are saying, to make it more clear.

but what i THINK your saying, is that you reinstalled windows to clear your hard drives and start fresh, and now every once-in-awhile your computer crashes and then restarts.

does it give you any kind of screen like a blue screen, or just goes black? also, when windows reboots, does it stop on a screen that descibes that windows shut down abruptly, and asks you if you want to start in safe mode?

That is a precise assumption. No, all that happens is my screen just goes black then goes to my motherboard bootup screen and starts from there. What might also indicate is when I play games it happens. I never crash when I am idle or on the internet.

It could be your video card over heating, or your PSU not having enough voltage to run your system. Did you change anything lately? Like add a new video card or any other parts?

Or has is been running fine until you reformatted?

Please list your system specs, aka all of the parts that make up your system.

When it does it again, go into your BIOS and check your CPU temperature to rule out that overheating.

Chances are it's your PSU on it's way out though.

I added a new motherboard and it has been running fine until i got my new motherboard (i got a new one because of messed up slots).

System:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 4200+
CORSAIR XMS 2GB
Foxconn 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX
EVGA GeForce 7800 GTX

If it's a new board then you had to reseat your existing heatsink, so it's possible that's where the problem lies. (Badly seated / thermal paste issue) So, like I said, the next time it happens go straight into your BIOS and check the temperature.

if this is right it says my CPU is 40C so thats not bad but is there a way i can turn my fanspeed up? I think something may have happened because i just bought new thermal paste *pretty good stuff* and my heatsink is seated fine.

I am just curious y this is because it has never happened before...I even re-applied my thermal paste to make sure there were no air bubbles.
