Needs to work on a older machine, P4 1.5ghz 512 SD(not DDR) ram and such.

Can be big or small, there is a big drive on there, and fairly easy to use, the more like windows the better. I will be installing for a friend. It also needs to support a P2P program, preferably limewire.

Currently Ubuntu 5.10 and PC Linix OS(pclos) does not want to install correctly. pclos does not install at all, it gets stuck at 22% and ubuntu will get tons of errors at 77% but eventuly finish with a buggy OS.

I have installed both mutible times on other machines with no problems :/ Windows installs fine. (Trying to dual boot them, and i tryed installing linux after, and before windows, both a no go)

Any suggestoins?

that will support almost every version of linux out there, heck it would support windows xp if you want.
Try ubuntu
its good for beginners

I am dual booting with windows as said above, (Although I didn't meantion it was XP, but it is) and Ubuntu gets a ton of errors when installing as said above.

It gives a ton of CD read errors, but the thing is, by that time its unpakcing the packges from the harddrive :/

Linspire...don't laugh it is pretty good:D may do the trick and it is like Windows.

Or try the current Ubuntu, 6.06.

Try Ubuntu 6.06 (Dapper), but burn the iso at the slowest level possible on the cd. Use the text install cd and not the livecd as that is buggy at best.

But if you can't get Dapper to go then use the text version of Hoary (5.10)...again burn at the slowest setting (sometimes on the older boxes I've noticed that the higher speed burns make for a difficult install).

Oh, by the way, after you get Ubuntu installed (as you can tell I'm a huge fan) then search the forums (Ubuntu forum is EXTREMELY helpful) for how to install Automatix for whichever version you end up with (or just post back and I'll find you a link). Automatix is a script that allows you to quickly and easily install a crap-load (technical terminology) of software (you pick and choose; as much or as little as offered). I use it for all my installs these days...

Edit: use FrostWire (Linux version of Limewire...almost identical and is an option on Automatix)...it rocks!
