Hey guys im trying to get my new PC together and have run in to a problem. I just recieved this mobo from newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813130484

The first thing i did with it was removed the norhbridge fan and clean off the old thermal paste with 70% alcohol, cuetips and my fingernails. I put the whole thing back together with artic 5 silver and went about my way building the rest of the PC.

Now it won't start up and is beeping one long beep in continuous intervals at me- is this an unrelated issue or did i mess somehing up?

Here are the beep codes:
http://www.msicomputer.com/support/sup_tshoot.asp#1_4

and the LED definitions code is stuck on #3:

" Memory Detection Test
- Testing onboard memory size. The D-LED will hang if the memory module is damaged or not installed properly"

anyone got a clue? could it be bad memory (brand new OCZ 2x 1gig 400 speed) maybe shorted board on the chassis? its doing this with no hard drives or video cards connected. thanks.

Use 1 stick of RAM at a time, and try it in different slots. If you can get it to boot with 1 stick, try the other stick in the same slot.

ok just checked the ram one at a time in the slots- same thing. i can check tonight with a friends ram. maybe both of my OCZ ram sticks are bad? it just seems un-likely.

unlikely yes, but it is the most probable item to go out.

also, if you just got the MB you mem may not be compatable...sucky thought but valid...might want to check it out...

When my friend and I were building a system lately, he had bought 2 sticks of OCZ memory and both of them were DOA. We had to drive all the way back to the place he bought it to get it exchanged (stupid didn't buy from newegg  ) This could be the case with you... very unlikely however.

okay sorry for the delayed update-

It turns out that the motherboard did not like the ram being in the 1 & 2 spots- it would only boot up in the 3 & 4 ones!
Go figure. After I reformatted my SATA drive (with 3.5'' floppy) i am on my way to finishing up my new PC.

thanks for the suggestions guys.
