motherboard and h110 problem

so i bought the sabertooth motherboard for my PC so i could put my old motherboard in the family PC that im building but i installed the h110 cooler on my old motherboard and now the backplate for it is stuck on my old motherboard.

i'm having to put the sabertooth in my family PC but i wanted it for my own, is it possible to buy a new backplate and how could i remove it from my old motherboard

hmmm, the only idea that come to mind is the same trick I use to get stubborn heatsinks off and that is with a hairdryer.
Warm the backplate up and the stickiness might soften a bit, don't worry, as long as you can still touch it, its not too hot to hurt anything.

okay, i might have to try this..

warm it up from a distance with a hairdryer

is it possible to buy the backplate separate for the h110 ?

all it is really is the sticky things

You are talking about the sticky pads right that secure the backplate to the board?
Is this the only thing you need or have you still not got off the backplate?

i don't want to take off the backplate without the sticky things to replace, so ill buy those first then attempt to remove it with a hairdryer.

But yes, they're the things that secure the backplate to the mobo.. annoying little things :(

You don't need the sticky things. They're there just to make installation easier.
Well they are not just to make life easier, they protect the motherboard from damage and help evenly distribute pressure on the Motherboard. The most important job they do is to insulate to prevent electrical shorting.
If the pad is all you need then why don't you just cut some double sided sticky tape to size and use that or cut some rubber lining to the same shape, If you are desperate you come use many layers of electrical tape.

The back plate is plastic and the sticky pads do nothing more than hold it in place during installation.

LOL

Damn, I assumed it would be metal like my H100 and my thermaltake, well that's a little disappointing corsair. If its just those 2 silly little bits of sticky tape I don't see the problem or why you would start a thread :D

i started the thread because i wanted to use the backplate on a different motherboard and i didn't know how to take it off because of the sticky things...

but now i know to try with hairdryer and i that i don't need the sticky things to reuse the backplate on a different mobo

so... running into problems now..

after swapping the motherboards the downstairs computer doesn't load bios, the cpu stock cooler goes high and low high and low.
Windows doesn't load, nothing loads.

the build is:
Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3
4 x 4GB corsair 1600mhz RAM
Phenom II 1090t CPU 3.2GHz
2TB HDD
HD6970

this is the motherboard that i had the hairdryer on

Rest the CMOS by removing the battery and holding the power button for 20 secs the computer plugged in but switched off at the wall. REplace battery, start computer, enter bios and set default settings. Save and reset, then enter the bios again and set your custom settings. Save and reset.
