Motherboard are maybe overheating and CPU fan is too loud

Hi everyone,

I had a PC done a couple of months ago because I wanted a desktop PC for gaming. I got it, but never used it too much. After a couple of weeks, I started to notice some overheating, which caused some random shutdowns. The guy who built it decided to change the power supply but overheating continued.

It hasn't reached the point of shutting down again but I moved the PC to a place where it has better ventilation, also every time I use it I take off the lateral cases (I know I shouldn't and probably is wrong, but it actually keeps less heat).

Taking a closer look I realised in was in fact the motherboard which seem to heat a lot even if there isn't a particular process running and its the processor's fan the one that makes a lot of noise and not the power supply fan.

Also, I downloaded SpeedFan, it only recognized two fans (I have three, the processor's, the power supply's and the graphics card's). One works at 1000 rpm and the second one at 6000 rpm. In temperatures, it registers three different ones: 56C, 39C and -128C. I don't know if I should trust these numbers and unfortunately I can't really tell which is from where. Sorry.

I really don't know if there's something wrong with my PC, but it's not normal that the fans (processor and power supply) are always spinning at 'max speed' and making a lot of noise for 'no reason at all'.

As a last random fact, CPU is always above 50% I could even dare to say it's always above 60%, I don't know if this is normal or if this helps indicate something.

Below are my specs, thanks a lot in advance!

Motherboard don't overhead.
Your CPU/ Video card do.

What case have you got? Any case fan?
i assume you clean out all dust in the case?

Also, get yourself some decent thermal phase, personally using artic cooling MX4. Take out your existing cpu cooler, clean it with isopropyl alcohol. Reinstall with new thermal phase.

As a last random fact, CPU is always above 50% I could even dare to say it's always above 60%, I don't know if this is normal or if this helps indicate something.

Could likely be malware or similar, and would account for the extra heat output. The stock FX cooler is pretty noisy/annoying, too, so being under continuous load is probably contributing to most of it.

Also, your GPU fan wouldn't show up under SpeedFan but rather from within your driver set application (CCC).

Download core temp and a Gpu temp software to get what values the CPU and Gpu is running at. I'd run prime 95 and see what sort of values your running at. If the CPU gets very hot it could be something like someone incorrectly installing the CPU heatsink and or thermal paste. I'd run msi kombustor for the Gpu. If it's the Gpu it could be a fault with the fan or the Gpu itself. It may be a better idea to upgrade the CPU cooler and thermal paste if the CPU heat is the problem.

Also make sure to fully scan the system for viruses and malware. Defrag the PC too.

Rune Prime95 while using HWMonitor or CoreTemp to see what your temps look like. If they're getting very high (upper 60's in Celsius you might want to consider a new cooler.)

As for the noise the stock coolers with those 8320's are AWFUL. My brothers computer had an 8320 with stock cooler and 2 rooms away with the door closed I could hear his computer over mine that was sitting next to me. I changed his cooler for him and it's way quieter.

Hi serchinnho!

Are you on the AMD stock cooler? Suggestion: Swap it for a CoolerMaster Hyper EVO 212.

What's the idle temperatures, voltages and fan RPM's? Check this in bios. Or download HWMonitor.

Have you seen to reducing the cable clutter inside the case? A good airflow thru the case is very important.

My last bet is a flaky powersupply. Raidmax, does'nt have the best of reputations really.

Thanks a lot for the feedback, guys! I'll try to answer to everybody.

This is the case I've got: http://goo.gl/KgdEYi and no, it doesn't have a fan. I haven't cleaned it but this problems have been since the beggining. I'll clean it this week.

The PC has less than 10 minutes on and the CPU value is 58 C and the GPU value is 46 C. I'll run a complete scan on the PC as soon as I finish this post, then I'll defrag it.

Yes, probably I have the AMD stock cooler. The thing is that this PC was built by a guy just won't answer emails anymore and I'm afraid of swapping this for that. I have zero experience building PCs and don't want to ruin something.

Also, I checked and cables do not seem to be obstructing airflow.

About fans: CPU's is little above 6600 RPM, 8320's is at 49 C and 30 W and GPU's at 1000 RPM and 0.825 V.

Again, I don't know if I could switch coolers, maybe get another fan. The last thing this guy did was change the Raidmax for another one, he thought it was malfunctioning.

It's just very possible that the heat sink may not be on correctly or maybe not enough thermal paste was used. Doesn't seem like the person you used to build it doesn't know what he is doing.

Yeah your temps are too high. You need to either reseat your current cooler with new thermal paste or just get a new one (Cooler Master 212+ is the typical recommendation, assuming your case is big enough).

Clean the dust first.check if there is any virus/malware

If u don't mind spending a bit money, get a 9cm case fan, exhaust from back.

May be spend slightly more getting cpu heaksink like cooler master 212 evo or artic cooling freezer pro 7 rev 2, if u want it quieter.

Yeah, this guy knew what he was doing, maybe it's the cooler or the thermal paste...

I ran a bootscan, it found a couple of malicious adware and that's it. I opened it up and cleaned it, there was a thin layer of dust in the graphics cards (a dead bug) and that's it. CPU usage is still above 50%. There is a process (javaw.exe *32) using a lot of CPU but I guess this is normal. I also defraged it. It has so little installed it did it very quickly.

I'll try to contact this guy again to see if he can check it out...

It's Java 7 Update 67.

I already found out what happened. The process "javaw.exe *32" on the Windows Task Manager was located on a subfolder called ViewPower 2.11. It turns out that is an advanced UPS management software. D:

I uninstalled it and CPU usage went straight back to 1%. I don't know if this guy put it by accident or if I just shouldn't trust him... anyway, CPU usage problem is gone!

CPU temperature is now below 35°C, GPU 40°C and 8320 at 16°C :DDD
