Motherboard cooling

I was messin with my computer the other day, like you do, when i noticed that the small heatsink on the NB for the tri-sli was a bit bent and didnt not seem to be seating perfectly. My temps are not bad, but i would rather not leave it to chance. To fix this i need to remove all the heatsinks as they are all connected by a heatpipe. This includes the mosfet cooler which im guessing uses some form of thermal tape to make contact. Would i be able to use thermal paste to make the contact instead, if i use the spread technic and just the right amounts?

Yes. Be sure to clean it with 91% alcohol and clean wipe. Then apply your choice of thermal paste.
It only takes a dab of thermal paste to make a solid bond.
 
I was thinking of just cutting the heatpipe at the mosfet and SB, then finding a alternative heatsink for the two NB's.
 
ive removed all the pins holding the heatsinks to the mobo, but the NB and SB will not come off, what did asus use? super glue.

Anyone got any ideas on how i could get the heatsinks off?

I have thought about maybe put the computer back together on my table, getting the NB and SB hot, turning it off quickly, then trying.

Sometimes it can take some effort and wiggling, but it should be so hard you will need to rip the chips off the mobo. Could try getting some 91% alcohol underneath the heatsink with a syringe or eye dropper to loosen it up.
 
ive put some real effort and wiggling into it, im pushing hard down on the pci ports just to keep it on the table lol. I will try some alcohol now.

I don't understand too. If you have no temp problems, why do you annoy you cleaning and replacing the thermic pastes?

Now you have already started, I advise you to do as bomberboysk said. Use a hairdryer to warm the chip and the thermic paste and remove it.
 
the hair dryer trick worked thanx, now the computer is back together the temps are better, but all my settings in the cmos went. Now im having problems getting the raid to work, cant find MBR lol. No worries i can fix this.
