Motherboard/CPU choice

So, yeah, I'm going to build my first computer soon. I know how to build one, Cos I've taken apart and put together old computers, talked to friends and stuff. I know all about the compatability and stuff. I have a budget of about £400, excluding monitor. I was thinking of getting the athlon 64 3700+ 939 pin, as this has a higher cache than any of the am2s (like almost double). I can't afford a dual core processor at this point. I understand the 939s are older (do they still release new ones? There are dual cores....). However, it seems none of the 939 pin motherboards take ddr2 ram. So, my question is, should I go with the 3700+ and get ddr ram? The 3700+ does have like almost double the cache, but will this not be worth looking at with the difference between ddr and ddr2?

Any help is appreciated, Thanks.

Even though it has twice the cache, it isn't worth it. Go with Socket AM2, because no more processors are being made for Socket 939.

I agree, 939 is more or less a dead end road. Funny I think there going to make 754 semprons for awhile, ended up beating out 939. Not for sure but I think a AM2+ and AM3 processors are suppost to run on a AM2 board with a bios update.
