Motherboard / CPU or RAM

Hi, im new to this forum and i am in need of some help!

I have recently bought the following items from ebuyer:

Motherboard:
Asus A8V Deluxe Socket-939 VIA/KT800Pro

CPU:
AMD Athlon 3200+ skt939

RAM:
Corsair (VS512MB400) 512MB, DDR400 / PC3200

After assembling all the products VERY carefully!.. i powered up and nothin happened... nothin came on the monitor, no bios, no 'beep' no nothin!!
The motherboard fan and LED do work.

After checking all the connections were correct 3 times, i came to the conclusion that somethin was dead!
BUT.. i dont know what it could be...

Im wondering, if the RAM was faulty would i still get some sort of bios and the same for the CPU???? Or is it just the Motherboard that is faulty??

Any help would be very grateful.

Thank you,

Mark

I bought all the parts from ebuyer.

Yup.. connected all the wires n stuff.. the light comes on but no bios.

Thats why im wondering what parts are fault.. if the cpu was dead or the RAM.. what would happen?

I purchased this motherboard and built a computer with it last week using an AMD 3000+ and 1 GB of Corsair value RAM. I can tell you that the first thing that should happen when you turn the computer on for the first time is that it will flash a message about resetting the BIOS. It will then automatically run the BIOS with a picture from ASUS on the screen. Once the BIOS finishes you should hear one short beep. I have never heard a beep even though the case's speaker wire seems to be connected correctly to the MOBO.

Considering the order of events with the BIOS, I would imagine it's the MOBO itself that is bad. Although the CPU fan would start up with the computer, the BIOS starts before anything in the CPU or RAM is checked. Also, you should get beeps if the CPU or RAM is faulty. There is a listing available of the pattern of beeps based on what BIOS found fault with, but if this were the case you should still get the BIOS screen when you turn the computer on. There is one other possibility. It could be your video card or connection since you should see something when you turn the computer on. Maybe the computer is going through BIOS but like me you are getting no beep when it finishes POST, but you don't see anything because of your video card.

Good luck.

take out the CMOS battery (cr2032) and leave it out for 5-10mins and then put it back in. This will clear the BIOS. Now make sure all cables are connected and that your monitor is plugged in properly. If that doesn't work, post again.

Or you can use a jumper and reset the CMOS (it should tell you how in the mobo manual). If this doesnt work, then my guess would be a faulty motherboard. Since the power led does comes on, which means that the power supply most likely isnt broken, it should still get to the bios without the cpu or ram.

Obviously I guess I don't understand the BIOS process. It was my understanding the BIOS starts even before the CPU and RAM, or else how could it check both of those and report any errors?

In any case, my bad. Sorry.

Ok, thanks 2 every1 for their replies.

I have tried to reset the bios by taking out the battery and using the jumpers.. that didnt work.

lol, well i've sent the m board back, if they replace it and it doesnt work again, its either bad luck or it WAS the cpu... (now i know it could of been)

So...
faulty cpu = nothin and
faulty m board = nothin but
faulty ram = at least a beep..

Thanks everyone.. when i get the board back i'll post back.
