Motherboard/CPU Post issues

Today I just bought a MSi H97 PC Mate and a Intel i7 4790K today. Turned it on and there is no POST screen on the monitor. I checked the memory (taking each one out and testing it) and that wasn't the issue. I noticed on the socket, a few of the connectors on there was not in place. I know my past rig builds, a few socket connectors would be out of place and still boot up. Do you think I should just replaced the motherboard and get a new one. Also the computer never shutdown, so it didn't overheat once even though I couldn't see the POST Screen. any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Please define 'socket connectors out of place'. Did you bend some of the pins on the socket?

That also sounds like a weird combination, like you were cheaping out as much as possible on the board...

Yeah some pins of the socket were bent. Yes the motherboard is on the lower scale compared to gigabyte and asus but its a decent board and I was on a budget as well. Gonna try spirit methods to see if I can get this rig up and running today.

Bent pins generally kill it. You might get lucky and bend a ground or something but you're usually screwed. Sometimes you can take a needle and flip them back into place but you also risk breaking off the LGA pin.

Please be more careful when mounting your CPU.

If you bend pins and it isn't horrible you can frequently bend them back in to place with a toothpick. Just be VERY careful. Also check out the BIOS update John mentioned.

Back and up n running. Replaced the motherboard with an Asus board. Thanks for the help guys. And yes I will be more careful next with installing the cpu on the socket.
