Motherboard/CPU Recommendations

I'm going to be putting together a new desktop and need some recommendations for a new motherboard/CPU. I've got around $600 for the two. I'd prefer Intel, but just because I've never used AMD, though I'm not opposed to using AMD.

Things that are important to me:

Looking for multiple SATA ports. I have a lot of data and I back it all up at least on another hard drive.

I'll be using an SSD for Windows 7, and with the technology improving with price, I'll probably want to add a few SSDs in the future, so PCI express slots.

I'm thinking I want to use DDR3 memory, though I haven't picked them out yet, so DDR3 slots.

So what basically do you use your system for? Any high end gaming? video editing? Really can't help you until we know more information.

Ah yes; knew I was forgetting something. Multi-media/video/picture editing and surfing the web.
