Motherboard CPU socket

My motherboard is an Asrock Alivenf7g-FullHD R1.0. I read its specs through there site and found out that it supports AM2+ and AM3 sockets but as I read on I found this note:

*If you use AM3 / AM2+ CPU on AM2 chipset motherboard, the system bus speed will downgrade from HT3.0 (5200 MT/s) to HT1.0 (2000 MT/s), but the CPU frequency will not be influenced.

what does that mean?
Because i'm having the idea of upgrading my current AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 4600+ 2.4Ghz to AMD Phenom X3 440 but I found out that it is a AM3 socket.
 
AM2 boards has a HT of 1000/2000MT/s. AM2+ and AM3 has a HT of 2600/5200MT/s.

The processor you have picked wont use up the full bandwidth of 1000/2000 so you wont notice a difference.
 
you mean to say, I can upgrade my procie to 440? If yes, will there be a significant increase in performance?
 
Refer to my first post, why does it say:

and the box has a label AM3. Thanks for the heads up
 
I would probably email them and ask about it before getting the CPU, since AM3 are not on the CPU supported list.
 
What do you mean the fact it doenst say it has support for any AM3 cpus or the bit in the op where you said?

I got confused because the motherboard box has a label AM3 socket and then that context you qouted says "If you use AM3". So wouldn't it implicate that the mobo supports AM3 socket? But when you look at the cpu support list, it doesn't have AM3 choices

Probably is just a general statement that they put on all there AM2 boards.

But the fact that they put AM3 on the box, would leave you to believe that it supports AM3 CPUs.. But not on the CPU support list.

I agree, its making it confusing.
