Motherboard failure?

I recently tried to re-install XP on the hard drive in one of my PCs but I couldn't. Every time I booted up the computer, after the POST, I received the message "Disk read error, Press Ctrl-alt-del to restart". I know it is not a hard drive failure because I took that hard drive and put it in a different pc, then loaded XP onto it. But even if I put it back in the 'broken' PC, it doesn't work, and I just receive the same message. I think this problem might be a motherboard failure, but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any ideas on what this problem might be, or if it can be fixed?

you need to disable bootsector/mbr/antivirus protection in your BIOS

some BIOSes prevent writing to the bootsector on the hard disk, as viruses like to hide there.

However, this is bad if you are trying to install an OS, as the OS bootloader needs to be written there

Is it SATA/ATA and if ATA is the jumper set to MS/MA(master) ?
Have you tried another IDE/SATA socket on the mobo?
;)

the mobo is not dead or broken.. if you set it in a master drive the computer would'nt read it because in the first place the installed hardware on the hdd is not the mohterboard and specs of the one that you insert it in.. damn it's so hard to explain it in words.. but at least i tried my best..
