my laptop is no longer, portable, so it is now a desktop. i need a laptop for my school work and basic web browsing. i was going to see how much the motherboard would cost to replace (the power socket doesnt work anymore). can someone help me figure out what motherboards are compatible? i am still trying to figure all this out.

thanks,

With laptops. you usually have to get one made for your exact model. Just search "HP pavilion xz275 motherboard" on google shopping/ebay and hope to find something.

http://product.pelltechnology.com/HP_Pavilion_XZ275_Motherboard_Replacement.asp That one is $365.

And here's one that's refurbished for $283: http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/HP,Pavilion,xz200,F3397H,Laptop,System-Boards.aspx It doesn't come with the processor.

I thought you said that if you held the plug in the right place, the laptop would charge?

yeah, but it is ridiculously temperamental. the problem is, i cant tell exactly what position it needs to be in, without actually plugging it in, which i cant do while its taken apart. so i have to guess, then put it back together, then test it. and since i didn't get it right, i have to take it back apart, adjust it, put it back together, then repeat. so i basically have given up. and when i saw the price for the motherboard, i was tempted to just toss it then and there.

Not worth repairing when you could get new laptop at $400

yeah i know. i was hoping that the mother boards would be really cheap, because i need a laptop. does anyone have a recommendation for a good but not expensive laptop? I am 14 so i cant get a job, so i only have the cutting grass, taking care of animals, and basic stuff. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

if you can solder the you may be able to take it out and put in a new port. i see them all the time on ebay. and ive repaired lots of thing by soldering a new something on.

actually, if i get one, do i have to solder it? or could i just hot glue it in place?? i mean, as long as all the parts are touching, right?
