Q1. If i get a motherboard and the north bridge is AMD can it support any graphics card or does the north bridge have to match up with the graphics card? Q2. can any motherboard support any graphics card nvidia or ati? Q3. if the answer to Q2 is no, how do you know what graphics card a motherboard can support?

You can run a single card with any chipset.

Crossfire using AMD/ATI cards with AMD/ATI and some Intel chipsets.

SLI using Nvidia cards with Nvidia and the newer Intel chipset with a bios approval or a extra Nvidia chip on the board.

to clarify...if you are only using one card it doesn't matter about the chipset, but if you are using two cards then it does matter(amd or ati for crossfire and newer intel and nvidia for sli)

Right

Nvidia makes SLI boards for Intel and AMD processors.

AMD makes CF chipsets for AMD processors

Plus Intel can make CF boards using there own chipset with a agreement from AMD/ATI

The newer Intel chipset can run SLI with approval from Nvidia with a bios reading or a extra Nvidia chip on the board.
