motherboard not detecting HDD and CD rom

I have them slave and master and it still wont boot the Cd rom to put windows on. I had to put a new Bios battery in and crap but it still wont detect the HDD and CD rom any ideas. Its a HP and its the older ones . Its IDE drives.

that didnt work. it worked to boot a cd but every time you go into bios there is no Master or slave where i needs to be here take a look.

and if there nothing there it wont boot anything up. i dont know why. Ill my drives are set to slave and master and nothing will show up.

do you have both drives on the same ide cable?

is there 2 ide connections on the motherboard? (ide1 ide2)

if there is just put them hard drive on ide1 as master and put the cd drive on ide2 as master

ok i got 2 IDE plug ins and i have them both hooked up with a drive

IDE 0 : CD Rom
IDE 1 : HDD

Ill try your idea above ^^^^
