Motherboard/processor compatibility

I am considering upgrading my processor. However, I don't know what processors would work in my current motherboard. I have been trying to search about but to no avail.

My system is a Compaq Evo D500 desktop

The motherboard is a compaq 077ch and I currently have a P4 1.7 mhz processor installed. I would be eternally grateful if anybody could point me in the right direction of the processing capacity of this motherboard, please? I am looking to upgrade, preferrably without having to put a new motherboard in, as I have heard that Compaq desktops aren't very upgrade friendly in terms of motherboards.
