Motherboard Resetting FSB

Right so a while ago i got a Q6600 great! overclocked it to 3.4GHz was stable run at good temps but i found out i had to reset my computer once it got into BIOS for it to run at 3.4GHz it kept going back to stock 2.4GHz. Well obviously i replaced the CMOS thinking that would solve it and it didnt so I am pretty confused. The computer runs like a dream when it finally boots up at 3.4GHz and im pretty sure its a BIOS/mobo related issue and flashing the bios doesnt help either.

Any thoughts? Is my motherboard buggered?

Thanks (:

it doesnt reset the BIOS which is wierd, if it says its starting up at 2.4GHz and i go into the BIOS everything is set for 3.4GHz which is odd :S im going to try lowering the cpu multiplier and raising the fsb to see if that changes the issue. I also recieved a warning message before in the BIOS about the cpu clock changing but i turned halt off so ill turn it on and check the message.

hm seems to have solved my problem by lowering the multiplier to x8 and putting the fsb up to about 1700MHz it booted up fine without any errors. Seems ive solved my problem for now, need to see if its stable but thanks for the reply strangle anyway

well it wasnt stable at all crashed right at the start of burnout paradise :P but oh well ill just put up with resetting it 10 times at boot xD

If it's not saving yor settings after a reboot, you need to clear the CMOS. Turn of the computer, unplug it from power, open up the panel and take out the small round battery. Hold down your power button for ~10 seconds, insert the battery, plug in the power, turn on the system and try again.

nah it saves the settings it just reset the CPU speed and when it says its 2.4GHz and i go into BIOS the settings havent been reset. Ive cleared the CMOS loads of times and replaced the CMOS battery but ill just put up with it
