Motherboard upgrade question

Bare with me here, Im a newb when it comes to computers. My question is this, I have recently been upgrading my computer a bit to better suit my needs. Nothing fancy, But just something better hardware than what I had. Ive upgraded everything but my motherboard and was wondering if I even needed to. I have a Shuttle Spacewalker AK 32 mother board with an AMD Athlon XP processor. My video card is an Nvidia GeForce 5500. Is that motherboard good enough for the other two, Or should I upgrade? If I should upgrade, Whats a decent priced model to go with? Thanx

what socket is the mobo? socket a?

and the video card you are thinking of getting., is that pci-express? or agp?
you gatta know rather your mobo supports cpi-express or agp;

and what do you mean by : AMD Athlon XP processor??
i am guessing x2 3800~x2 4800 series, but you should tell us the exact model of it,
or the link where you are buying it

well, for processors like x2 3800 requires socket 939 motherboard

which i am not so sure because i don't know much about the motherboard you listed up there;;

hopefully someone can answer your question better

i personally think that instead of upgrading certain parts, might as well buy a new computer...
these days, its not so expensive.

Obviously, You don't know to much about computer hardware. Other posts I've read from you are mostly incorrect.

I'm not trying to be to mean about it but, maybe you need to look some stuff up before you start trying to "help" others.

For the anwser to your question Braddock, If everything works fine and your motherboard works just don't worry about a motherboard unless you want memory upgrades and so forth. (That's up to you).

If you want a new one: You will need to know the interfaces of your componets (Example: Video card is AGP, PCI-Express, PCI etc..) You will need to know your Socket type. Being a Athlon 64 it's more than likely it is a 939 socket.

After you know all of your interfaces you could start shopping searching for a motherboard that you want with those interfaces.

i think that Charles_Lee just missunderstood what u said. what u mean is that you already have those parts on your mobo right, and you were just wondering if u should upgrade or not?

He clearly stated it was an Athlon XP processor (Skt A)

Braddock, although I'm having trouble finding info on your motherboard (probably just because Skt. A is a bit outdated), if everything works ony our board it should be fine. If you want to upgrade, the Asus A7n8x-x is a great option.

Thanx for the input yall. It is Socket A. The CPU, To my understanding, Is an AMD Athlon XP 2600. To be more specific, Im wondering if the older MB is hindering the abilities of the newer hardware I have installed, Or if its ok as is. No need to spend money on stuff that doesnt need upgrading. While Im here, Ive been seeing the term "overclock" in quite a few posts. What exactly does that mean?
