Motherboard wont detect hard drive.

Ok so i bought a bunch of parts to put a computer together, the main things to know is i have a 600w corsair psu, Asus Z97-E motherboard and 1tb seagate hdd. basically after connecting everything together im able to run the bios on my computer, detects the cpu and ram perfectly as well as allows me to tweak them if i wish, however does not detect my hard drive. i have tried flashing the bios to the newest version, running the support disc in a usb dvd drive, only to have it boot into freedos, i can run a live linux version which didnt help me much, and i started a windows 7 install, but stopped at the point of there was no hard drive, tried using that time to install drivers from the website via flash drive and even though it said they were installed still no luck getting the hard drive to detect. i tried changing all the settings on the mobo from ide/achi/raid as well as disabled with no luck, also i have tried swapping out both sets of power cables from the psu to hdd as well as the sata cables from the mobo to hdd, still cant figure it out, will probably try to take it to a friend sometime later in the week if i can to see if he can try running the hard drive in a separate machine for me. if there is anything i havent covered that i might try please throw some ideas at me. Thanks in advance and sorry about the mess on the screen.

Sounds like you may have a bad hard drive. Can you hear the drive spin up when you turn the power on?

knew i was forgetting something, yes i can hear it start to spin up, the mobo speaker beeps once, then i hear a second beep that sounds like its coming from the hdd itself, whats the chances it was bad during being sent and how hard would it be to try to return it if it has a warranty or return claim available for it, like special packaging or anything like that needed?

First, try it in a different machine to test. If that machine doesn't detect it then the drive is bad. Rma the drive back to where you bought it. Usually only an antistatic bag is the only required packaging you need. Then you put the antistatic bag inside another box with enough packing material so it won't move.

ok sounds good, ill have to wait til later the week then to take it to a friend for that, i dont have any other machines close by that are compatible for testing it. hopefully it is just a hard drive malfunction and not something else. well thank you for your help and i will probably drop a line back on here around next weekend depending on how things go or if i manage to get the test done sooner.
