i have a compaq presario sr1123wm i happend to have the case open at the time and my mouse had gotten loose and ate alot of the cables for the power button the ones you plug into the board

so no switch im wondering if i can buy a case cause i managed to salvage the peices and found where the hdd led and power led connect to and where the little switch connects to which was all one peice that you plug in

now with cases i know they usually give you 2 pin connecters im wandering if i can take those 2 pin connecters and connect them in the spaces there connected to in the big thing and then have the computer magicly work again if the little *insert range of bad words here* did not eat anything else this computer was ON at the time aswell i do not know how he is not dead

thanks for any information you can provide

The power button simply shorts two jumpers. You could easily rig another switch, use a screw driver, or just have bare wires sitting outside of your case :P Way way you short those connections, it'll make the computer come on.

darn

k so i have tried three things to no avail

1. spliced the wires to the switch nothing
2. connected the two spliced wires together
3. tried to put a jumper where those pins were well i call it a jumper the things on harddrives

i mean im not 100 percent on where the power exactly is cause most of the wires i found just laying there by they were color coded i dident think i needed the lights so i did not even try to connect those also the computer was running while i found it so i dont think anything major is broken

this is the board each black dot is a pin tried taking pictures but my camera sucks so a mspaint will have to do

this is color coded to what i think they are

red is the power switch

yellow is the hdd led

green is the power led

again i dont know if this is correct it is just what i THINK because i found the wires at the bottom of the case to match

You're not splicing the wires together THEN plugging it in, are you? What you need to do is touch the wires once while it has power. Or say with a jumper: plug the system in, then slid the jumper on than back off the pins.

jeeze

ok the mouse bit through a green wire connecting the power supply to the board i spliced it and put some electrical tape around it it juices up umm i dont think its to safe to run it in this matter so im probally gonna throw some money down for a power supply and the old timer LIVES ON and i thank all of you dudes for the advice

my mouse's name was socrates so i like to think that he took a bite out of the computing revolution
