Mouse icon locking up...

As my title says, I'm having a problem with my mouse icon on my computer locking up. It invariably happens every time, requiring a restart in order to restore the icon's mobility. When it locks up, I can still use the mouse to point, I just don't have an icon to guide me. Yeah, you know it's annoying to not have the icon and to just go by "feel".

Anyways, I've uninstalled the device, reinstalled the device. Switched from usb to ps2 back to usb, installed the drivers from cd, installed drivers from internet, rolled back to original microsoft drivers, and am back to cd drivers. It doesn't do it after a set amount of time. Sometimes it does it after 2 minutes, sometimes it does it after 2 hours.

The mouse is a Logitech optical mouse, I believe it is a m-bj58 or something like that for the code on the bottom. Anyways, any ideas on what the heck is going on?
 
Have you tried a different mouse? If you haven't, try that first, because it could be something other than the mouse itself, and it would be good to start eliminatiing possibilities...
 
Bah, guess I'll pick up another mouse and give it a try. I tried my mouse on my friend's laptop and it works fine the whole time, so bah.
 
Ok so I got a new keyboard/mouse and I'm still having the problem at times. Getting a wireless kb/m setup has been on my list of "things to do" for a while now, this just made me do it. But...its still locking the icon on the screen. Which, I get sick of either moving the mouse without the icon to show me where its at (tougher then you think!), or restarting all the time.

Any ideas? I've removed the drivers, reinstalled from net, installed from cd, etc.
 
Hmm..., shot in the dark, but you might want to check out a possible virus infection or adware/spyware issue. Try posting a HJT log in the computer security forum, too.
 
Well, I did a quick repair of XP, and I've been working with my computer for several hours with no lockups, so I think that my situation is resolved. How? I don't know, =P.
