Mouse is acting up

So I used to have a fairly old dell ball mouse on my computer. It started acting up to the point where it wasn't very usable. It would studder and just stop working for a few seconds. So I put a logictech wireless mouse on it. The problem went away, its been about two months now and the problem is coming back with the new mouse. So I guess it is something with the computer but I don't know what. I've been fooling around with the mouse settings in the control panel and nothing is working. Anyone have any ideas?

With the old mouse, the inside could have been getting dirty and not allowing the ball to track properly over the rolling bars. With the wireless mouse, the batteries could be going dead; try switching out the batteries and see what happens.
