Mouse not working

Have an Acer Aspire 5000 given to me recently. It had a lot of useless programs on it which I have been deleting through control panel add/remove /programs. One of these deletions said restart compter which i did. Main screen comes up with icons and I can select Administrator using arrow keys but cannot move the arrow using my touch control pad. I was
able to get to safe mode but again cannot use touch pad to select any program. I thought i would go to system restore but can't get to it. Help!!
 
Try plugging an external mouse in, that should help you get around to fix things.
I never use the pad on my laptop, I hate them.
