Mouse problem, getting very annoying.

Hi, having some trouble with my mouse opening file rename boxes (basically just like when you right click a file to rename it) it does it for every single file i click on and it makes it a pain to move stuff into different folders. Now my mouse is a Razer Death Adder (Wich is infamous for double clicking on its own due to just defective hardware) and i have no problem whatsoever in games, or anywhere else but my files. So its not really double clicking i dont think, and the thing is it does it for other mouses too like my g9 logitech mouse and one of my wireless ones. Sometimes when i restart the computer and such, it wont do it for a while but it will always start doing it again after a few hours wich i find strange. And thats what made me think it wasnt some sort of thing i enabled on accident, cause i didnt. Ive tried reinstalling drivers, different USB ports etc, anyone know what the problem might be here? Or did i just get unlucky and somehow have 3 mouses go defective on me, lol.

For all the explanation, you don't actually describe the problem! Does the context menu fail to appear? Does it take a long time to appear? Does it appear blank?

Do you have any shortcuts elsewhere that are activated by right-click? When it behaves after reboot, what things do you run prior to it playing up again?

FYI "F2" key is the shortcut to rename a selected file in most apps and you can also left-click, pause, left-click.

Ill be more in depth then, an example would be WoW addons, When i try to extract stuff my mouse will lock into the "Text box" where you would just rename a file by right clicking on it, so its more than just standard "files" like if i click on "My computer" it will do it and if i press a key, it will erase its name and replace it with wichever key i pressed on accident, so its basically anything that could be "renamed" i guess. Another example would be skype, and msn too. If i click on a friends name it will lock into the box, and then if i press any keys it will just erase its original name (Bob turns into w) on accident. Ive tried inverting the buttons (making right clicking the main button) and it still does it. After reboots nothing reallly that could change a setting i dont think. Just youtube, browsing the internet or after playing a game and then it does it again. And as ive said, it does it on my other mouses too. The main thing that gets annoying about this is when extracting files, it makes it near impossible to do anything because it will stay stuck in the box and wont let me click on any other file (like program files, and other files like that) The mouse causes problems no where else but in this stuff.

Whenever I right click I get a context menu which may have 20 items including Rename, not an automatic renaming option. I have XP but MS' instructions for Vista and W7 are identical.

I mostly use left-click, pause, left-click but if I use right-click, select Rename and type, the original name disappears and is overwritten. That is the standard Windows method to my knowledge.

Could it be that apps where you get your rename option by right-click are special apps where renaming is the only option?

When i right click them, its completely normal i have all the general options that anyone else would (Open file location, send to, properties, rename, etc) and yeah, like you said everything gets overwritten if a letter is put in, for just browsing files i can deal with this without accidently pressing a key or something like that, but when im trying to move folders in winrar, or any program like that my mouse actually gets "stuck" so i cant even choose the "+" thing you see when extracting stuff to open up folders, so ill just have to end up closing the program and restarting the computer if i want to get anything done with it. This all happens in just one click, and like i said this gives me trouble no where else. I really dont know why kind of option could of got turned on that would make it do weird stuff like that, and ive been told to just get a new mouse, but like i said also, three mouses :(

The mouse is freezing during normal file operations and will not unfreeze? The only way to unfreeze is to reboot?

Ironically I've had this problem a few times recently. Sometimes I'll leave the PC for hours and come back to find the mouse frozen. If freezing is your issue, it is not uncommon and can be caused by many factors. The most useful guide I've found is here. You would have to see which factors may be relevant to your problem (eg batteries not applicable to wired mouse).

Not freezing exactly, just being stuck inside the "Text Box" control alt delete and closing winrar can solve it, but i will have to restart if i want to extract anything so it wont get stuck in it again. It doesnt get stuck in everything, just while extracting. But other than that its just the same problem
