Mouse wont click anything

I turned on my computer yesterday to find out that I can move my mouse, highlight icons by just hovering over them, but I am unable to click (left or right) for the life of me, I can scroll pages with the scroll bar but for everything else I have to use the keyboard. I have Vista. Anyone know what the problem could be?

give him some cheese, he might be on strike!
umm...have you tried disconnecting it and plugging it back in? if its usb have you tried it in another port? have you tried a different mouse? if so does it still not click? if not then you may need a new mouse.

I have restarted, forced shut down, used different USB slots. I have tried to update the drivers for it. Could it be something with the registry? I haven't tried a new mouse yet but I will get a new one to check it... Once I changed the USB the mouse went inverted all the way around, then I unplugged it and put it back in then it moved fine, but still no clicking could be done.

So do you think it is just the clicking mechanism in the mouse that is faulty?
