Move all my files from old computer to new computer

Hello, I have a newer computer (windows XP) and an old computer (windows 98). Any suggestions on how to move all my pictures and songs to the new computer? All the new products like USB flash drives say they aren't compatible with windows 98. Thanks in advance.

The first thought would be taking the drive out of the old system and likely an ide drive slaving it in the new. Once the drive is in properly there are a few data recovery programs or the use of cetain live for cd Linux distros that will readily see copy + paste operations performed until you have everything you want off of it.

If you have never used a live distro the OS is a bit different while a live distro will still function much like Windows with similar but different named options. The image here shows how a file or folder copy+paste operation goes while booted live and looking onto an MS not Linix VFat partition.

Booted in XP you won't be able to view files and copy them over from the old drive. A live distro like Knoppix and better at this time ubuntu is an actual go between OS for the gap between the older Fat32 and newer NT cored versions of Windows.

Well until christmas when I buy my rig. I am currently running Windows98SE (second edition) and using a nano flashdrive. I downloaded the driver from the internet for it runs perfectly fine.
Look up on the internet for the windows98 drivers for your particular flashdrive

A live distro will work a lot faster then copying small amounts onto an intermediary drive and then onto a second system. While booted live you can copy + paste entire folders regardless of size for direct copy from HD to HD despite the different versions of Windows by simply slaving the 98 drive in the XP case.

Another method to mention here would be considering an external drive for a separate storage device to have onhand now for the newer system later where you can move files onto that. The factory partition seen on the Windows/Mac compatible models is also Fat32 for cross platform application. 98SE or newer required for Windows use.

The use of live distro is already a known method for rescuing files even from inaccessible partitions on drives and would work well there. http://www.shockfamily.net/cedric/knoppix/ is an older article that explains how it's done with a Knoppix live cd.
