Movie making problem

Hi
I am trying to find a way to put movies on my pc to a disk and play them on my DVD player but they don't work. Is there any advice out there that could help me.

first did u burn to a dvd? Cu ahve to use a dvd burnign program such as nero, otherwise it'd just burn a data disk...post pack

i have been using this programe called windows dvd maker and it have done it but it only work with mpeg files and it dont work with other files so do i need a converter or something like that.
